Erdoğan Against Autonomy: We will Make Life Unbearable for Them

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said, “We will make life unbearable for those who try to establish a state within the state as we did to those who want to form a parallel structure under the name of community within the state”.

Presidential system

Erdoğan speaking at program named “All Together for New Constitution” held in Ankara by Constitution Platform of Turkey said that parliamentary regime in Turkey has headed for the last roundup.

Erdoğan stated that it should be switched to presidential system in Turkey now and the new constitution should be prepared in accordance with it.

“It is extremely difficult to carry it out with elected president and elected prime minister.

“My suggestion is to let our nation decide it. Parliament should make a decision at this point and then resort to the nation. Final decision should be made by the nation, not MPs”.

“National constitution”

Erdoğan expressing the present constitution is a product of distrust against the nation remarked, “All of the constitutions up till now are import, not local. Now we have to return to local, to nation”.

“May NGOs be involved”

“New constitution will be stronger and more realistic as far as it is built by a structure with capability of broader representation. For this, we expect political parties represented in the parliament, and NGOs as voice of circles with different opinions to participate in new constitution process.

“Constitution texts is a social contract, and they should be. However, our constitutional texts are imposition. They have been prepared as coup directives”.

Separation of powers

“One of the most disputed questions during the new constitution process will be the matter of separation of power. We should make sure the parliament, the legislative organ focus on its primary role. None of us can have any objections to supremacy of law.

“At the heart of the undergoing nuisance between judicial organs, and legislative and executive organs, the understanding that takes conflict rather than harmony of powers as basis in the present constitution. When the spirit of the new constitution is formed on ground of harmony and balance instead of conflict, supporting each other instead of wearing out each other, this nuisance will go away by itself”.  (YY/TK)
