Chamber of Architects Ankara Office has awarded the Emre Madran Press Prize on the field of protection/preservation.
bianet journalist Nilay Vardar has received the prize in online journalism. The prize winners were announced in the third-year-commemoration after the death of Emre Madran held under the motto “A little decency for the memory of Emre Madran Please” .
Central Management Board Member of Chamber of Architects, Muteber Osmanpaşaoğlu has announced the prize winning organizations and individuals to be awarded for their publications and reports on city and protection on the fields of radio, TV, newspaper and online journalism.
In the section of printed press, Sözcü daily’s photo-reporter Yavuz Alatan, in TV journalism Osman Güdü from Ulusal Channel with the TV “Programme City and Life”, bianet journalist Nilay Vardar in online journalism and Nergiz Demirkaya from Özgür Radio were deemed worthy of the awards.
The prizes will be handed over to their winners in the opening ceremony of the October 3 World Architecture Day.
Who is Emre Madran?
Emre Madran was born in 1944 in İzmir. He graduated from Middle East Technical University (ODTÜ) Faculty of Architecture, did his Master’s and doctor’s degree in restoration.
Between 1968-1973 he worked for the General Directorate for Foundations, and between 1974-1981 for the Ministry of Culture. In 1981, he became a lecturer in ODTÜ Faculty of Architecture Restoration Department. He was retired from his position in 2011.
He became a Central Management Board Member of Chamber of Architects in the 40th term (2006-2008) and 41th term of (2008-2010) of the Union of Chambers of Turkish Engineers and Architects (TMMOB)
In his academic life and within the Chamber of Architects, he was active on the fields of historical protection of the Ottoman and Republic era, traditional construction materials and construction methods, preservation legislation, field management and administrative and financial aspects of preservation for long years.
He has various publications and over 100 articles many of which address the protection of cultural heritage.
Who is Nilay Vardar?
Nilay Vardar graduated from Galatasaray University Faculty of Journalism. She has been working as a journalist/editor in bianet since 2011. She is specialized on urban issues, ecology, people with disabilities and minorities. (HK/DG)
