Women candidates from several cities of Turkey (Urfa, Muş, Konya, Antalya, Aydın, Sinop, Çanakkale, and Trabzon) were gathered together via this projects. The goals of the projects were to empower women voters and candidates in local, increase their numbers and enable them to benefit from their civil rights.
Handbook of the woman citizen
“Empowerment of Women Citizens, Activists as Active Voters and Citizens Project” under KADER was financed by The European Instrument for Democracy and Human Rights (EIDHR) and it lasted 20 months.
Women, who are active in non-governmental organizations, attended 3-days-long seminars. They conveyed the information and experiences they gained in seminars to at least 15 women from their environment and then distributed “Handbook of the Woman Citizen” which include practical information for women.
In the “Handbook of the Woman Citizen” prepared as apart of project there are themes on Gender and Politics From Women Perspective, Development of Publics and Woman Citizenship, Political Rights and Local Administration, Personal Rights and Women Citizens, Our Publics: Body Politics/Reproductive Rights and Important Articles about Women in Civil Code, Violence Against Women and Turkish Penal Code, and lastly Constitutional Rights and Rights in the Workplace.
For the second phase, it is planned to prepare the content of seminar subjects to be printed as a handbook. It is also aimed at reaching 8,000 women through these handbooks. (ÇT/MUY/BM)
