Turkey's Supreme Election Council (YSK) has rejected the request of 24 bar associations for the annulment of the circular letter postponing bar elections due to novel coronavirus (COVID-19) outbreak.
The related circular of the Ministry of Interior dated October 2 foresees the postponement of the elections of bar associations in the event that the District or Provincial Public Health Boards give such a decision.
Examining the application of 24 bars for the annulment of the circular, the YSK has concluded that "there is no absolute unlawfulness" in the related circular and rejected the application by a vote of nine against two.
After the Interior issued the circular letter, the YSK announced that the general assemblies and elections of bar associations could not be held if the District or Provincial Public Health Boards gave such a decision. The Council did not find it objectionable that political parties hold their conventions.
