A cat that was rescued from under the debris after the 6.8 magnitude earthquake in the eastern Elazığ province has been brought to Antalya for treatment.
The cat was rescued by Antalya's firefighters, who went to Elazığ to help efforts. The firefighters were presented a plaque by Antalya Metropolitan Mayor Muhittin Böcek.
The cat has been named "Toros," in reference to the Taurus (Toros) Mountains in southern Turkey.
Antalya Fire Department Director Hidayet Yıldırım said they found the cat after a one-and-a-half-hour effort. "The cat slept in the same place with us, it ate what we ate. We shared our supplies with it, brought it in our vehicle. We brought it to Antalya after a 12-hour journey."
Having bruises on its body, the cat has been placed under treatment at a veterinary hospital.
The earthquake that hit Elazığ on Friday (January 24) claimed 41 lives and left hundreds of buildings damaged. It was also felt in Armenia, Georgia and Syria. (DB/VK)
