This year's 19th İstanbul Pride March was prevented by the police in violation of the Constitution and dozens of people were detained.
Taken into custody during the Pride March, eight people from the LGBTIQ+ Assemblies are now facing a lawsuit on the grounds that they allegedly violated the Law no. 2911 on Meetings and Demonstrations.
The Assemblies have shared the news about the lawsuit by releasing a brief statement. They have briefly stated the following:
"The prosecutor used the slogans of 'you will never walk alone' and the Beyoğlu Governor's Office's unlawful ban on demonstrations as an excuse. The lawsuits you file to daunt us cannot intimidate any of us.
"We exercised our Constitutional right, we will exercise it again. We don't abide by the arbitrary bans of the heteronormative order. You cannot remove LGBTIQ+s from squares, work, home and life. You will learn to abide by the Constitution. You will accept that LGBTIQ+s lead an equal and free life. We invite all LGBTIQ+s and our friends to the first hearing of the court case filed against our friends on November 2." (EMK/SD)
