Higher Education Council (YÖK) has announced that Ege University Chancellor Prof. Dr. Mustafa Cüneyt Hoşcoşkun was suspended.
The council stated that Hoşcoşkun was suspended for the safety of the investigation launched into him.
Higher Education Council member Prof. Dr. Beril Dedeoğlu was appointed to Hoşcoşkun's position representatively.
Although Hoşcoşkun had ranked in the fourth place in the university chancellor elections, he was appointed to chancellor position by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on August 13, 2016.
Following the July 15 coup attempt, five university chancellors were suspended; Prof. Dr. Süleyman Büyükberber from Gazi University, Prof. Dr. Ayşegül Jale Saraç from Dicle University, Prof. Dr. İsmail Yüksek from Yıldız Technical University, Prof. Dr. M. Niyazi Eruslu from Yalova University and Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Bağcı from Pamukkale University.
About Beril Dedeoğlu
Born in 1961 in Ankara, Dedeoğlu was the director at the Galatasaray University Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences Department for International Relations.
She was appointed to YÖK membership for four years by then-President Abdullah Gül on February 6, 2012.
As a member of the "Wise People Delegation" during the solution process, she conducted studies in the Cental Anatolian Region in Turkey.
Between September 22 - November 24 2015, she served as the Minister of European Union Affairs. (BK/HK/DG)
