Ministry of National Education Counsellor Yusuf Tekin has described the new model which would replace TEOG (Transition from Basic to Secondary Education), the current system of transition from primary to secondary education as a "model, whose main philosophy is not to have a central exam in transition to high school and to have children go to high schools according to o their talents and interests".
Without exam
Answering to the questions of the journalists, Tekin stated that there were several alternatives of a system of transition without an exam.
"Actually, the system called TEOG was a model of placement according to the children's grade point average in middle school. Due to older habits, it turned into a central exam in the public opinion. But actually, we already had thought of some alternatives [...] at that time.
"[...] There are some alternatives in which there is no central exam for transition to high school where our children won't have to feel exam pressure and stress".
According to their talents...
Upon being asked by the journalists about "President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan giving the signals of a residential address-based system", Tekin said:
"It is an alternative which includes elements from every model that is being discussed among people currently. Its main philosophy is not to have a central exam in transition to high school and to have children go to high schools according to o their talents and interests". (YY/DG)
