The Ministry of Justice has announced that the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) has turned down 12,600 applications concerning statutory decrees addressing the State of Emergency (OHAL) Commission. The ministry added that they expect the court to drop other applications as well.
The statement issued by the ministry said that the ECtHR rejected the applications on the ground that the domestic remedies haven’t been exhausted and addressed the OHAL commission.
OHAL Commission
Prime Minister Binali Yıldırım issued the following statement about the OHAL Commission:
“[The commission] begins its duty on July 17. It paves the way for legal steps, it is closed now.
“There are seven judges [in the commission]. There will be around 200 experts under their order and they will evaluate the files one-by-one.
“For instance, if they decide for a person to be reinstated, it will be implemented within 15 days. If the previous verdict is approved, then that person will have the right to appeal to higher courts.
“This jurisdictive path can lead up to the Constitutional court and the European Court of Human Rights”.
The commission was formed on January 23, 2017. (AS/TK)
