The application made by the Amnesty International and its then-board chair in Turkey, Prof. Dr. Levent Korkut, to the European Court of Human Rights (ECtHR) was concluded today.
The ECtHR ruled that the applicants' "right to a fair and reasoned trial" under Article 6 of the European Convention on Human Rights and their "freedom of association" under Article 11 were violated.
Amnesty International and Korkut had applied to the ECtHR regarding the administrative fine imposed on them for allegedly failing to inform the administration before using funds from other countries.
Korkut in January 2008 appealed against the fine of approximately 5,283 euros imposed on the organization for its activities in 2006 and 2007, stating that the funds were sent from the organization's headquarters to its Turkey branch. His objection was rejected.
In today's decision, the ECtHR stated that the domestic procedures and court decisions were lacking in detail and reasoning. (AS/VK)
