According to a new statement of assets, Erdogan's wealth has increased by 600,000 YTL ( around 350,000 Euros) in the last one and a half years.
Assets worth 2,200,000 YTL
The statement was published on 12 September on the Prime Ministerial Press Centre website.
According to the statement, Erdogan and his wife now have assets worth around 2,200,000 YTL (around 1,273,000 Euros). In February last year, their assets stood at 1,600,000 YTL (around 926,000 Euros).
The statement of assets mentions two plots of land, and 1,803,854 YTL and 9,890 Euros in the bank from selling shares, from a pension, and from the parliamentary salary, as well as a 2006 Volkswagen Passat of Erdogan's wife.
Previous trial because of assets
Erdogan has been on trial before because there was an inexplicable difference between his statement of assets from 1998, when he was mayor of Greater Istanbul, and 2001, when he had become chairperson of the Justice and Development Party (AKP). He was acquitted in 2003.
There had been a difference of 250 billion old lira, or 250,000 new Turkish lira (around 145,000 Euros). The court decreed that Erdogan had been earning money in business and that there was not enough proof to prosecute. (EÜ/AG)
