Ebubekir Şahin has been reelected as the chair of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK).
The council had an election today (January 25) after his two-year term expired.
Arif Fırtına, a member of the council, was elected as Şahin's deputy.
Şahin also holds seats at the boards of the Press Advertising Agency (BİK), an agency responsible for distributing public notices in newspapers, and the state-run Halkbank.
Under the chairpersonship of Şahin, the RTÜK has been criticized for using its authority to punish media outlets critical of the government.

About Ebubekir ŞahinThe chair of the Radio and Television Supreme Council (RTÜK) and a board member of the Press Advertising Agency (BİK) and the state-run Halkbank. As a public official, he worked for the Ministry of Interior, the parliament, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of Industry and Trade, the RTÜK, and the Prime Minister, respectively. He was elected a member of the RTÜK on October 16, 2017. On January 23, he was elected as the chairperson of the council. He was appointed to the board of the state-run Halkbank in July 2020. He graduated from the Department of Public Relations and Promotion at Gazi University Faculty of Communication in 1995 and completed his master's degree at the same university's Journalism Department in 2002. |
