According to the latest data announced by the Disaster and Emergency Presidency (AFAD) a total of 3,549 people died in the provinces of Maraş, Antep, Urfa, Diyarbakır, Adana, Adıyaman, Osmaniye, Hatay, Kilis and Malatya, and 22,168 people were injured.
An earthquake with a magnitude of 7.7 occurred centered Pazarcık, Maraş at 04:17 on Monday (February 6). Another 7.6 earthquake centered Elbistan, Maraş only ten hours later and 312 aftershocks hit the same region.
According to the announcements by AFAD 5,775 buildings collapsed in the Maraş earthquakes and the total number of buildings reported collapsed is 11,302, but many not yet confirmed by the authorities.
Transportation to three cities stopped
Vice President Fuat Oktay also made announcements in the AFAD headquarters on the latest updates in the region hit by the earthquakes this morning.
The vice president said that the entrance of all vehicles to three cities was forbidden as of 11:00 am. for 48 hours other than for those making transportation for the disaster. So road transportation to Hatay, Maraş, and Adıyaman will be banned for two days.
380 thousand 500 victims are staying in the dormitories that belong to the Ministry of Education and Sports. Oktay also informed that over 1600 rescuers are sent to Hatay who arrive both from within Türkiye and abroad. (AÖ/PE)
