Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-Chair Leyla Güven has been summoned to depose. The reason for the summon has yet been unknown.
An investigation was launched by the Diyarbakır Chief Public Prosecutor's Office based on the information and documents seized during house raids targeting the DTK on October 9, 2018. As part of this investigation, warrants for detention were issued against 64 people and houses were raided.
As part of this Diyarbakır-based investigation, 43 people in total were detained in İzmir, İstanbul, Adana, Şırnak, Batman and Van on June 26.
Eight of these people were arrested on charge of "membership of an organization" by the Judgeship of Peace on Duty yesterday (June 28). The proceedings of 27 people are still ongoing at the security directorate.
Stripped of MP status and arrested afterwards, Peoples' Democratic Party's (HDP) Leyla Güven was released from prison on June 9.
Statement by the DTK
After eight members of the DTK were arrested, Congress Co-Chairs Leyla Güven and Berdan Öztürk released a written statement about the operations.
Noting that the ones participating in the works of the DTK face pressure, the statement has indicated that "academics, politicians, unionists, journalists, young people, ecologists and people from several other groups have their houses raided and face detention, battery and arrest for participating in its works, contributing to the DTK or being its delegate or executive."
Reminding that the DTK was "unlawfully raided on October 9, 2018 and June 26, 2020 after the coup attempt in 2016," the DTK has announced that "its door has also been arbitrarily sealed off following the last raid."
Indicating that "the list of DTK delegates has been turned into a list of people to be detained," the Congress has said, "Our list of 801 delegates seized in previous raids has been turned into a list of illegal organization."
"They have been conducting raids for the last two years based on the list of delegates that they took from our institution in the raid on October 9, 2018," the DTK has said further and announced that the lists of their former and current delegates have also been seized in the last raid.
"Even the houses of those who joined our general assembly as a 'guest' were raided and the 'Guest' card of the DTK general assembly was cited as criminal evidence," the DTK statement has indicated further. (RT/SD)
