Turkey's female domestic workers urge the omnibus bill to be redrafted according to their demands and needs.
There are some regulations in Omnibus Bill Draft Law related to social security rights of domestic workers. In accordance with those regulations, the landlord is to declare on internet that she/he hires a domestic worker and to submit worker’s salary on a coupon. When the worker encashes the coupon, 2 percent of it will be paid as occupational accident prim. This system will be valid for workers who work more than 10 days a month.
However, draft law doesn’t change the legal status of domestic workers and also it will cause to loss of many rights. It is demanded that articles in the law about domestic workers are redrafted in favor of demands and needs of the workers.
İmece Domestic Workers Union started a signature campaign in change.org in order to redraft of law. 41 women organizations support the campaign.
Having addressed to Labour and Social Security Minister Faruk Çelik, President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and PM Ahmet Davutoğlu, the union state the demands of domestic workers and explain why articles in the draft cause the loss of rights of the workers. (ÇT/MUY/BM)
