The publicity meeting, where the Minister of Finance and Customs Berat Albayrak introduced the New Economic Model, started at 3.22 p.m. today (August 10) in Dolmabahçe, İstanbul.
When Albayrak started his speech, the exchange rate of the US Dollar was 6.13 Turkish Lira. When he ended his speech at around 4.30 p.m., 1 US Dollar was 6.59 Turkish Lira.
Here are some of the highlights from Albayrak's speech:
"Today is a very exciting day for me. Over the last 16 years, Turkey has gone through a very successful period, where it has been promoted to an upper league. This meeting aims to set the general framework of the new system.
"Berat Albayrak is here today, but not tomorrow... It is not what we are talking about; the system that we have designed should be sustainable regardless of whether Albayrak is the minister or not.
"At the heart of the systematic problems experienced by a large number of countries lies the absence of sustainability. The new system will be sustainable. It will be participatory.
"81 million will be participatory.
"When we take the macro-indicators of Turkey, we can say that we are not going through a reasonable process." (PT/SD)
