Doğan Media Group has informed the Public Disclosure Platform (KAP) that it has started negotiations about the sale and transfer of the group to the pro-government Demirören Media Group owned by Demirören Holding, whose current Chairperson of the Executive Board is Erdoğan Demirören.
In the announcement made to the Public Disclosure Platform, it is stated that the sale and transfer negotiations between the two groups have started with "a share value of 890 million US dollars".
As per the related "Special Circumstances Disclosure" published on the website of Public Disclosure Platform, the transfer transactions comprise "all shares owned by Doğan Media in the direct and indirect subsidiaries which operate in the field of written and visual media".
About Doğan Media Group
Doğan Media is the only large media group in Turkey which can still make critical broadcasting and publishing, though partially. In Turkey's television market, with a market share of 10.82 percent, Doğan Media ranks second after the pro-government Turkuvaz Media (12.04 percent).
Upon the leakage of secret phone calls in March 2014 which were allegedly between the then Minister of Justice Sadullah Ergin and the then Prime Minister, now President and Justice and Development Party (AKP) Chair Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, it was publicly discussed that the government was directly involved in the astronomical penalty fines that were imposed on Doğan Media Group as a means of pressure against the company.

Vatan and Milliyet daily newspapers were sold in 2011
The daily newspapers Milliyet and Vatan, which used to be owned by Doğan Media Group, were sold for 74 million dollars to Demirören and Karacan Groups' joint venture company, DK Journalism and Publishing Co., in April 2011. One year later, Demiören Group acquired all shares of Vatan and Milliyet. (AS/SD)
