Diyarbakır’s Kayapınar Co-Mayor Mehmet Ali Aydın and Yenişehir Co-Mayor Mehmet Selim Kurbanoğlu have been taken into custody.
It was also stated that a raid was launched on Yenişehir Co-Mayor Ülkü Baytaş’s apartment but Baytaş couldn’t be detained as she was in Ankara.
A search is being carried out in buildings of Kayapınar and Yenişehir municipalities.
A lawsuit was filed against Democratic Regions Party’s (DBP) Kurbanoğlu and Baytaş on charge of “Committing crime on behalf of an [illegal] organization thought not being a member of it” demanding from 5 to 10 years in prison. Kurbanoğlu and Baytaş were acquitted on October 13, 2016.
There are 47 DBP co-mayors in detention as of December 6, 36 trustees were appointed to DBP-governed municipalities. (ÇT/TK)
