Diyarbakır Bar President Elçi Commemorated at Scene of Shooting

Diyarbakır Bar President Tahir Elçi have memorialized on April 5, Lawyers Day in front of Four-Legged Minaret in Turkey's southeastern Sur district of Diyarbakır province where he was shot on November 28, 2015.

Elçi’s wife Türkan Elçi, his colleagues, Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) MPs lawyer Meral Danış Beştaş, Mithat Sancar, People’s Republican Party (CHP) İstanbul MP lawyer Sezgin Tanrıkulu attended the commemoration.

The commemoration started with march. His family and lawyers marching to Four-Legged Minaret left cloves on where Elçi was shot.

Almost 4.5 months passed over his killing, and the suspects still haven’t been brought to court.

The investigation proposal submitted by the HDP to parliament as to the killing of Elçi was rejected by votes of the governing Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP).  

Tahir Elçi was shot during the press statement which he was calling for peace and conflict to end. (AS/TK)
