“It is against our moral values to declare loudly about pregnancy. Women shouldn’t wonder in streets while pregnant. First of all it is not aesthetically pleasing. Women around 7-8 months of pregnancy hop on their husband’s car to get some fresh air. They can go out in the late afternoon... But now, they are wondering all over the place. This is not decent. This is not realism. This is pure indecency,” advocate Ömer Tuğrul Inançer said during a Ramadan program in TRT1.
“God bless you,” the TV presenter said in response to Inançer’s remarks.
Turkey’s women are preparing to rally against Inançer’s remarks in Istanbul and Ankara tonight.
Activist women created a Facebook group “A pillow protest in obstinacy with disrespectful attitude towards women”.
“We are protesting the disrespectful speech of Ömer Tuğrul Inançer on women. We are going to take the streets with pillows in our bellies,” a group post said on Facebook.
Protests venues and hours are as follows:
Ankara, Güvenpark, 7pm local time.
Istanbul, Kadıköy, Boğa Square, 7 pm local time. (AS/BM)
