Haldun Açıksözlü, actor and director of the theatre play "Laz Marks" is sued under allegations of "insulting the prime minister" in the play. The show has been on stage for one year in cooperation with the Leman Culture and 'Canşenlik' Actors.
The play has been shown in about 80 different provinces and districts. The complaint was filed after the performance in Rize as part of the Laz region on the eastern Black Sea coast. The Rize Magistrate Criminal Court demands a two years eight months prison sentence for Açıksözlü by reason of "insulting the Prime Minister".
Director will give his statement on 12 March
Director Açıksözlü will give his statement in the morning of 12 March at the Beyoğlu Magistrate Criminal Court.
Açıksözlü's lawyers Hüseyin Güçlü and Hakan Bintepe expressed their belief in a written statement made to the public that: "Citizens will pave the way to freedom by joint initiatives against attempts to destroy freedom of speech and thought". (EÖ/VK)
