Dicle News Agency (DİHA) Reporter, Merdan Berk, was injured last Tuesday (December 29) in both of his legs by gas bombs during following up news in Turkey's southeastern Diyarbakır where protests take place in many areas.
On December 29, public laborers with Confederation of Public Workers' Union (KESK) and Confederation of Revolutionary Workers' Union of Turkey (DİSK) had stopped working with the demand "peace against war" and stores didn't open in Diyarbakır. Protests had taken place all over the province.
The report indicates armed injury
Berk spoke to bianet:
"There were five meters between us. There is no way that they couldn't have seen me or didn't know that I was a journalist! They fired [gas] on purpose...first my left leg, and then the right one as I was trying to move away, I just fell and couldn't get up".
Berk discharged from the hospital after the treatment and received a report stating he was wounded by fire arms, has noted that he will file a criminal complaint against the police officers. (BA/EA/TK)
