Dicle News Agency (DİHA) reporter İdris Yılmaz arrested as he was following up report in Van has been released by the court pending a trial from the case he was being tried over “Propagandizing for [illegal] organization”.
Yılmaz had been detained as he was following up report in Tendürek neighborhood of Erciş district of Van province on November 13, 2015 and arrested on charges of “Propagandizing for terror” and “Insulting President”.
“Police had threatened”
Yılmaz pleading in Kurdish said that he was summoned and threatened by police “We will have you rot in jail” in the police station a week ago.
His attorney, Sebahattin Kaya said crimes in the indictment are not solid and his client is being tried unlawfully. Prosecutor demanded continuation of detention.
The court has ordered release of Yılmaz by taking into consideration of arrestee period. The next trial will be held on February 15.
It has been stated that Yılmaz will appear before judge as to the case he is being tried over “Insulting President” due to a cartoon concerning President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan he shared on social media.
30 journalists are in prison
JİNHA reporter Vildan Atmaca arrested with Yılmaz was released on December 29. According to bianet Media Monitoring Report, there are still 30 imprisoned journalists after release of İdris Yılmaz. (ÇT/TK)
