Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) Batman province deputy Ayla Akat Ata submitted an official inquiry to Family and Social Policies Minister Fatma Şahin, asking on ministry’s strategies to avoid trans murders and other related hate crimes in Turkey.
Reminding that the ministry put a deaf ear on the government’s homophobic and transphobic statements, Ata put forward these inquiries:
* What measures is your ministry planning on to the restoration of freedom and equality on trans people who are ostracized and subjected to physical, sexual, psychological and economic violence every day?
* Does your ministry currently do any research to avoid murders against trans people and combat transphobia?
* Does your ministry currently have any legislation drafts in hand to submit to Justice Ministry on the avoidance of hate crimes and violence against people with different identities including trans people?
* The parliament recently held a special screening of the movie “My Child” - a documentary emphasizing on the issues of families with LGBT children. Putting this fact into consideration, does your ministry currently have any support programs to confront those families’ issues and offer solutions? (ÇT/BM)
