Detained after holding a statement for the press on the 7th establishment anniversary of Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) at Beşiktaş District Office in İstanbul on October 13, nine people from the HDP have been arrested.
After deposing at the police department yesterday (October 14), nine people were referred to İstanbul Courthouse in Çağlayan. Deposing to the prosecutor's office, they were referred to İstanbul 1st Penal Court of Peace.
The court has ruled that nine people shall be arrested on charges of "violating the law on meetings, demonstrations and marches" and "propagandizing for a terrorist organization".
Among the ones arrested yesterday are also HDP Küçükçekmece District Organization Co-Chair Hüseyin Fidanboy and HDP Şişli District Organization Co-Chair Mutlu Öztürk.

What happened?
On the occasion of its 7th establishment anniversary, the HDP announced that it would hold an event to mark the anniversary at Mustafa Kemal Cultural Center in Beşiktaş, İstanbul.
The District Governorship of Beşiktaş banned the event. After the event was banned by the district governorship, HDP Co-Chairs Sezai Temelli and Pervin Buldan as well as its MPs and co-mayors held a statement for the press at HDP Beşiktaş District Organization.
Dispersing with the slogan "Biji berxwedan Rojava" (Long live Rojava resistance), the group was intervened by the police with pepper gas. Nine people were detained in the intervention. (TP/SD)
