Mehmet Fatih Maçoğlu, who has been elected as Dersim Mayor as the candidate of the Communist Party of Turkey (TKP) in the March 31 local elections has got the mandate to assume office.
Along with Maçoğlu, those who were elected to the Municipal Council have also got their mandates at the Tunceli (the official name of Dersim) Courthouse.
Tunceli Central District Election Council did not mandate Maçoğlu on the ground of "a security problem."
According to the Sol Haber, Maçoğlu will assume office in a ceremony at 1 p.m. today (April 5).
Trustee in charge since 2016
The Ministry of Interior discharged the Mayor of Dersim and appointed a trustee to run the municipality on November 17, 2016.
In the 2014 local elections, Mehmet Ali Bul from the Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) won the mayorship of the southeastern city.
The Ministry of Interior appointed the Deputy Governor of Tunceli Olgun Öner as the trustee.
After the conflict period in the southeast in 2015 and 2016, the Ministry appointed trustees to more than 90 municipalities which were held by BDP or the Democratic Regions Party (DBP).
