Elif Çermik (64), a demonstrator who was wounded due to police tear gas at yesterday’s alternative urbanization gathering in Istanbul, still remains in ICU with critical condition.
The incident took place as police broke up protestors with tear gas and water cannons. Çermik had reportedly found refuge at a closed location but failed to avoid the side effects.
Losing conscious at her refuge, Çermik was hospitalized. Sources said that her heart stopped at the time of admission in the hospital. With her heart pumping again, she was transferred to Dr. Siyami Ersek Cardiovascular Hospital.
Istanbul Chamber of Medicines released a statement saying that Çermik went through angiography and doctors detected 2 blocked veins.
“She was later on transferred to ICU unit. Currently, her situation remains critical. She was plugged to a respiration machine and pit on sleep with medicine.” (NV/BM)
