Imprisoned Kurdish politician Selahattin Demirtaş has written a new article about his application to visit Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) leader Abdullah Öcalan.
"Isolation is against law, is a crime and torture. These reasons are more than enough," he wrote about Öcalan in the article published on Gazete Duvar news portal yesterday (December 7).
Öcalan has been held in a high-security prison on İmralı Island since February 1999. The last time Öcalan's family members visited him was in March 2020. He hasn't been able to meet his lawyers since August 2019.
"But we also have very humane and political reasons about social peace and the ending of conflict and the increasing tensions. Saying delegations should be sent to İmralı is much more moral and legitimate than saying soldiers should be sent across the border," he wrote, referring to recent cross border military operations.
