The definition of “available” as “(woman) who is ready flirt or flirtatious” on the website of Turkish Language Institute (TDK) enraged women in Turkey.
Showing reaction on social media, women said that the part “(woman)” was sexist. A campaign has been launched on Change.org for TDK to remove the aforementioned expression.
“TDK has a sexist attitude by adding the woman in parenthesis. It serves to the patriarchy that originates the violence and negative discrimination against women,” the campaign statement said.
“Even if we think that this mistake has been made without a purpose, TDK officials have still done an overtly serious mistake.” (BK/BM)
