Defense Minister Hulusi Akar announced that a quarted meeting between Turkey, Russia, Syria and Iran is planned to be held in Moskow tomorrow (April 25).
The Minister talked about Turkey-Syria relations and his statements have been posted from the Twitter account of the Ministry today.
Here, Akar reminded that a tripartite meeting was held in Moskow with the participation of the Defense Ministers and heads of intelligence services of Turkey, Russia and Syria on December 28, and an agreement reached to continue these meetings.
Akar further said, "In the joint work carried out after this meeting, consultations were made about including Iran also in these meetings. Our preparations for a quartet meeting this time have been ongoing since this (Iran's participation) was found appropriate by the related bodies. It is now planned that this meeting will be held in Moscow on April 25. Our purpose is to solve the problems here through talks and to bring peace and rest to the region at once."
Akar who stated that the relations and the contacts were continuing on the basis of mutual respect, added, "We expect some positive developments to occur after the meeting is held. As Turkey and as our Ministry, we are doing our best to contribute to a regional peace."
The Minister also said, with regard to the Syrians in Turkey and in the regions in Syria that are controlled by the Turkish Armed Forces, "we can never take any decisions or steps to put them in a difficult situation. They should not worry and they should feel comfortable. Our attitude should be well known by all and everybody should act accordingly. We have a very clear policy here," the Minister said.
