Yüksek: A trustee was appointed during 1980 coup period as well
Criticizing the trustee appointment to Diyarbakır DBP municipality, Yüksek stated that the crackdowns nowadays resemble September 12, 1980 coup period:
"Trustees were appointed during September 12 period as well. Diyarbakır has witnessed trustee appointment twice in its history. One was in September 12 during Kenan Evren's [then Chief of General Staff] term, and now during AKP (Justice and Development Party) and [President Recep Tayyip] Erdoğan's term.
"They had appointed a colonel to Diyarbakır Municipality then. And today, they want to govern it through a Sub-Governor they appoint. The purpose is the same in both periods. NGOs and media outlets are being closed in the same way as in September 12. Every media outlet making Kurds be heard are being closed. We see this period as a coup period".
Tuncel said: AKP wants to have people's will by force
"We will fight during the upcoming period by saying 'No to AKP coup'. The AKP that doesn't receive support and approval of people is trying to have people's will by force.
"The second leg of the real coup is being tried to be sustained by seizing DBP municipalities. Standing against this is a duty for us all".
The people coming to the meeting headed for the municipality building to rally after the meeting ended. (OÜ/ÇT/TK)
