A group of students from Istanbul's Notre Dame de Sion High School recorded a video to support sociologist Pınar Selek.
The video is a compilation of readings from a statement on Pınar Selek - Notre Dame de Sion alumna - and the injustice she faced through her long trial, each sentenced performed by another student.
"We don't want to witness the cruelty that Selek is put through, we don't want to experience this cruelty either. Social sciences aren't submission," students said in the video statement.
Enhanced with a short video message from Pınar Selek, the video included the reading of a statement performed by Alara Çakmakçı, İlayda Akarca, Öykü Gürol, Elif Naz Güveniş, Dağhan Öztürk and Doğacan Yılmaz.
"The only reason I can stand to this is the solidarity per se," Selek said.
Some of the highlights from the student statement included:
"It is everybody's right to let their works and ideas circulate freely and without judgment or censure. It is also important to let people publish any work that doesn't include hate speech or condescending any language or religion.
"Therefore, I know that struggling for Pınar Selek is actually struggling for everyone else in this cause.
"I won't stop speaking up for people's freedom and equality. I want to defend my opinions freely. I refuse to end up in exile or prison just because political elites find my political existence threatening. I refuse to be accused by militarist accusations for my anti-militarist struggle." (ÇT)
