The Government plan for 2016 has pointed out that amendments have been made with regards to the law concerning violence against women and the National Action Plan for Social Gender Equality.
Besides, it has also been noted that measures would be taken to provide that all programmes on the media would be broadcasted in conformity with traditional family values.
The Law No 6284 for Protection of the Family and Preventing Violence Against Women prepared with contributions of women’s organizations and feminist attorneys active on the field, had entered into force as of March 2012.
Family education programmes will become prevalent
In the medium term programme covering the period of 2016-2018 issued on the Official Gazette on January 23, a chapter for “Family and Women” has been included in addition to topics such as developments and aims in economy, balance of payments, growth and employment, education, judgement and fundamental rights and liberties.
In the programme in which the current situation has been characterized with the remark “the institution of family had to encounter severe risks in line with social problems arose from industrialization and urbanization expanding and diversifying further with globalization”, has laid a big emphasis on the Family Education Programmes.
It has been noted that within the scope of these programmes, trainings would be organized such as the pre-marriage module, intergenerational communication education module, Internet literacy module and family and Internet module.
The Programme has also pointed out that amendments on the present National Action Plan for Social Gender Equality and the Law no 6284 on Preventing Violence Against Women were being worked on.
“The negative influence of media on family”
In the programme which argued for the negative influences of “visual, auditory and social media and Internet”, it has been noted that training programmes would be offered to families to overcome the aforementioned problems and Family and Divorce Consultancy Services would be provided to reduce divorces.
It has also been stated that “measures would be taken to provide that all news, magazine programmes, films and similar productions on visual, auditory and social media be in conformity with our traditional family values and effective regulations would be made to deter from negative broadcasts”.
These regulations are going to be determined in cooperation with the Ministry of Family and Social Policies, the Mİnistry of Culture and Tourism, the Ministry of Youth and Sports, the Ministry of Social Education and Radio And Television Supreme Council (RTÜK).
“Common sense meeting” with production directors
RTÜK President Dr. İlhan Yerlikaya had held a meeting with Minister of Family and Social Policies, Sema Ramazanoğlu in January and announced that common sense meetings would be held with chief editors, serials producers and representatives from the audience to discuss the actions which would be taken “to support media activities and projects to strengthen and protect the institution of family” together with the media sector.
