Dersim Preservation of Cultural and Natural Heritage Initiative has filed a criminal complaint to press charges against those responsible for fires in the area, highlighting that the fires have been near-continuous since the beginning of OHAL (State of Emergency).
Filing the bill of complaint on behalf of the initiative, Barış Yıldırım underlined that the fires usually broke out as a result of the ammunition used in military operations. He also noted that using heavy weapons, which are likely to cause fires in the forest, and dropping bombs on the region in spite of this known risk, were against the law.
‘National Park also on fire’
Yıldırım pointed out that a fire had also broken out in Munzur Valley National Park, which has the status of a nature protection zone, and added that the continual outbreaks caused heavy damage not only in the forests but also to the ecological system and the environment as a whole. (NV/DG)
