The Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) has filed a criminal complaint upon Minister of Interior Süleyman Soylu’s statements against HDP co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş on charges of “defaming” and inciting people to animosity and hostility”.
In the statement made concerning the complaint, the HDP said “Soylu used ugly remarks against HDP co-Chair Selahattin Demirtaş in a meeting in Erzurum”.
Demirtaş has been behind bars in Edirne Type F Prison since November 4, 2016.
What had Soylu said?
“The so-called human Demirtaş calls people to the squares to provoke people against each other”, Minister Soylu had said in a speech he made at New Turkey Conference (Yeni Türkiye Konferansı) held in Necip Fazıl Kısakürek Cultural Center in Erzurum on February 23.
Soylu also claimed that the HDP had put pressure on people at the ballots.
