Criminal charges against public officers regarding the murder of Hrant Dink has been accepted by Chief Prosecution after being rejected twice previously,the charge has been committed to the 14th High Criminal Court.
The criminal charge prepared by Gökalp Kökçü, Prosecutor of the investigation demands judging 26 suspects including Engin Dinç, Ahmet İlhan Güler, Celalettin Cerrah and Reşat Altay.
The criminal charge had been declined twice before
The charge demands Engin Dinç; Director of Intelligence Agency, Reşat Altay; then Trabzon Provincial Police Chief and Ahmet İlhan Güler; then Director of Istanbul Provincial Intelligence Agency to be sentenced to prison from 20 to 25 years according to the “accusation of willful murder committed through negligence” regulated under Article 83 of Turkish Criminal Law.
The charge prepared by Prosecutor Kökçü had been declined by the Chief Prosecution twice before on the grounds that there was not adequate evidence about Engin Dinç, Ahmet İlhan Güler and Reşat Altay in the criminal charge.
Objection to decline by attorneys
Hakan Bakırcıoğlu, one of the lawyers in Dink case, had objected against indictments be returned and stated in his petition submitted to Terror and Organized Crime Investigation Bureau that this ruling has no legal base.
İstanbul 14th Heavy Penal Court has 15 days to accept or reject the indictment.
If the court accepts the indictment, the trial for 26 suspects will begin. (EA/DG)
