The number of coronavirus cases per 100,000 people has exceeded 1,500 in İstanbul, according to the weekly figures shared by the Ministry of Health.
Between January 8 and 14, the case density increased the most in Bingöl, İstanbul, Bolu, Rize, Kocaeli, Erzurum, Ankara, Bilecik, Tunceli and Trabzon, according to the figures.
Compared to the previous week, the number of cases per 100,000 increased from 1,222 to 1,571 in İstanbul, from 386 to 829 in Ankara, the capital, and from 574 to 714 in İzmir, the third-largest city of the country.
The provinces with the lowest case density were Van (16 per 100,000) in the country's east and Hakkari (19 per 100,000) and Urfa (37 per 100,000) in the southeast.
With the Omicron variant becoming the dominant strain, Turkey has seen a surge in new infections over the past month.
Yesterday, the ministry reported over 65,000 new cases and 185 deaths. (TP/VK)
