The Health Ministry confirmed 17 coronavirus deaths, 917 new cases and 982 recoveries yesterday (July 27).
With the new update, the death toll climbed to 5,630 with a total of 227,019 cases.
So far, 210,469 people have recovered from the disease while there are 10,920 active cases.
The number of patients in intensive care rose from 1,249 to 1,263 and the number of patients on ventilators rose from 387 to 392.
Currently, 11.5 percent of the patients are in intensive care.
Minister Fahrettin Koca said the number of patients in intensive care units increased in the last three days in İstanbul, the capital Ankara, Konya, Gaziantep and Diyarbakır provinces.
"In 21 provinces, we did not have any intensive care patients in the last three days," he said, adding the least increasing number of patients in intensive care units was registered in central Sivas, southwestern Isparta and Mugla, western Balıkesir and northeastern Bayburt provinces.
Healthcare professionals conducted more than 45,283 tests for COVID-19 since Sunday, raising the total count to over 4.6 million.
The coronavirus pandemic has claimed nearly 650,000 lives in 188 countries and regions since it originated in China last December. The US, Brazil, India and Russia are currently the worst-hit countries in the world.
More than 16.32 million COVID-19 cases have been reported worldwide, with recoveries exceeding 9.43 million, according to figures compiled by the US' Johns Hopkins University. (EKN/VK)
