Turkey's Minister of Health Fahrettin Koca has shared the map showing the number of novel coronavirus (COVID-19) cases per 100 thousand people by provinces in the week of January 1-7, 2022.
While the number of cases per 100 thousand increased to 1,222.37 in İstanbul a week, the number of cases was 386.15 in Ankara and 574.85 in İzmir. In the week before (December 25-31, 2021), the number of cases per 100 thousand people was 663.69 in İstanbul while it was 184.29 in the capital city of Ankara and 323.30 in the Aegean province of İzmir.
According to Koca, the intensity of cases saw the highest weekly increase in the following 10 provinces: Bingöl, İstanbul, Eskişehir, Muğla, Gümüşhane, Kırklareli, İzmir, Yalova, Ankara and Karabük.
In the week of December 1-7, 2021, the numbers of COVID-19 cases by provinces from the highest to the lowest were as follows:
