The legal suit brought against the Ministry of Interior by the family of Uğur Kurt, who was shot to death by police in the Okmeydanı Djemevi has been concluded.
The court ruled that the ministry pay fine of 734,000 TL (180,000 Euros) to the family. The ministry claiming that the administration cannot be held accountable objected to the decision. Lawyer of Kurt family Aslı Kazan finding the amount of fine low objected to the decision.
The police officer who shot Kurt was sentenced to 20 months in prison. The prison sentence was then turned to judicial fine of 12,010 TL.
According to a report by İsmail Saymaz from Hürriyet daily, the ministry was found at total fault. (BK/TK)
