Acting upon businessperson Çeçen’s defamation complaint, Ankara 5th High Criminal Court ordered a URL-based restriction on bianet’s article regarding the purchase of Sabah-TV allegedly by the order of PM Erdoğan. The aforementioned article, publish in Turkish, was entitled “Sabah-ATV Erdoğan’ın Emriyle Toplanan 630 Milyon Dolarla Alındı”.
bianet’s editor-in-chief Haluk Kalafat said they will not remove the aforementioned article and wait for Turkey’s Telecommunication Authorities (TIB) to ban the article, so that they can file a motion.
The court order read that plaintiff İbrahim Çeçen made the URL-based restriction due to defamation according to Law No 5651 Article 9/A.
“The court reached its ruling on the basis that the aforementioned content violated the plaintiff’s personal rights,” the verdict read.
The court also ordered to send a statement on Turkey’s Access Providers Union to restrict the same content on 20 URLs within 4 hours.
