A court has ruled that Fenebahçe fans shall not be allowed in the stadium in the March 4 football match against Kayserispor.
Yesterday, the Kayseri 2nd Administrative Court ordered the stay of execution of the decision banning Fenerbahçe fans in the stadium, after an application from the İstanbul-based giants.
Hearing the Kayseri Security Board, which had ordered the ban, the court today (March 3) rejected the request for the stay of execution. The decision can be appealed within seven days.
The ban came after Fenerbahçe fans protested against the government during a match against Konyaspor on Saturday on their home turf in İstanbul. The fans had called on the government to resign because of the presumed inadequate response to last month's massive earthquakes.
The next day, Beşiktaş fans also chanted similar slogans during their team's game. The İstanbul-based clubs are two of what is known as the "Big Three" of the country's football.
In response, several teams across the country announced support for the government, with politicians from the ruling bloc calling for games without supporters. (ME/VK)
