The Council of Judges and Prosecutors (HSK) has launched an investigation against the district election council chairs in İstanbul, against whom the Supreme Election Council (YSK) filed a criminal complaint for having formed the balloting committees in local elections in an unlawful manner.
After the YSK annulled the March 31 İstanbul Metropolitan Mayoral elections on May 6, the Council also filed a criminal complaint against the district election council chairs in İstanbul. As the persons in question are judges, the petition of criminal complaint was referred to the HSK.
Upon the criminal complaint of the YSK, the inspectors of the 1st Chamber of the HSK will prepare a report on the related district council chairs and the YSK will make a decision about the council chairs based on this report.
As reported by state-run Anadolu Agency (AA), no specific names have been indicated in the criminal complaint of the YSK as the ones who appointed balloting committees in an unlawful manner will be identified after the investigation of the HSK inspectors.
The YSK also filed a criminal complaint against "other responsible parties" in addition to the district election council chairs. Accordingly, the investigation against these people, who are not members of the judiciary, will be conducted by the prosecutor's offices in İstanbul. (AÖ/SD)
