The Council of Higher Education (YÖK) has demanded that the academic and administrative staff of institutions of higher education as well as the students in formal education be vaccinated against the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) so that face-to-face education can restart.
In a letter addressed to the Ministry of Health, the YÖK has requested that the related vaccination efforts be completed by this September.
The letter of the Council has emphasized that "in order for face-to-face formal education to continue in the institutions of higher education and to function properly as of the 2021-2022 academic year, it is important that the academic and administrative personnel who are on duty in the institutions of higher education as well as the students continuing their formal education be included in the groups to be vaccinated against the virus with priority."
The letter has emphasized that in case of a failure to do so, "it will lead to irreversible consequences for the ones who will graduate from applied training programs, especially from healthcare, while practicing their profession following their graduation." Accordingly, the YÖK has requested that the vaccination of the academic and administrative personnel as well as the students receiving formal education be completed by September 2021. (RT/SD)
