Istanbul 3rd High Criminal Court held the KCK Media case where 46 Kurdish media workers are standing trial for being an “illegal” organization member.
The hearing was observed by Mehmet Köksal from European Federation of Journalists and Gökhan Durmuş from Journalists Union of Turkey.
“Unconstitutional"
Following the removal of Special-Duty courts in Turkey, defense attorneys requested to a court for the review of the case by Constitutional Court, saying that it was unconstitutional.
The court, furthermore, removed the arrest warrants for journalists İsmet Kayhan and Şerefettin Sümerli.
“Constitutional Court ruling is significant”
Regarding the request, defense attorney Ercan Kanar told bianet the court only admitted the requests that was related to the Constitution violations.
He added that a new trial process must be started due to the new amendments in the Law No 6526.
“What the Constitutional Court will rule is very significant,” he said.
The next hearing was set to April 10, 2015. (EA/BM)
