The Constitutional Court (AYM) has unanimously rejected the request for the annulment of the legal regulation that envisaged the collection of an additional Motor Vehicle Tax (MVT) due to the earthquakes that occurred on February 6.
The General Assembly of the Constitutional Court deliberated on the application made by the Republican People's Party (CHP), which requested the annulment and suspension of the enforcement of certain provisions of the Law on the Abolition of Additional Motor Vehicle Tax for the Compensation of Economic Losses Resulting from the Earthquakes on February 6, 2023, and on the Amendment of Some Laws and the Decree-Law No. 375, which regulated the collection of the "additional motor vehicle tax."
The court ruled that the relevant provisions of the Law, which stipulated the payment of the additional motor vehicle tax equal to the amount of the motor vehicle tax levied for 2023, were in accordance with the Constitution and rejected the annulment request.
The reasoning for the decision will be prepared and announced later, and it was reached unanimously.
As a result, those who have not paid the first installment of the additional MVT due on September 6 and have been waiting for the AYM decision will incur a 1.4% interest charge for each month. (HA/VK)
