The act concerning amendment in Republic of Turkey’s Constitution as to lifting parliamentary immunities of the MPs against whom have cases has entered in force today by being published on the Official Gazette.
In the voting held in parliament on May 20, the proposal was approved with 376 votes against 140.
President of the Assembly, İsmail Kahraman had submitted the approved proposal to President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on May 24.
Erdoğan approved the act within on the last day of the legal period of 15 days, which is June 7.
The MPs against whom have cases can be tried now pursuant to this new regulation.
There are 138 MPs against whom have cases. Of these MPs, 27 are from the Justice and Development Party (AKP), 51 from the Republican People’s Party (CHP), 50 from the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP), and nine from the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). (BK/TK)
