The Ministry of National Defense released a statement yesterday (July 20) and announced that contracted infantry corporal Emre Büyükyıldırım and contracted infantry Mustafa Ahmet Demir lost their lives in an attack in the district of Çukurca in Turkey's Kurdish-majority Hakkari province.
In its statement, the Ministry said that the area of a military base in Hakkari was attacked, seriously wounding two soldiers. "Despite doctors' best effort, they succumbed to their injuries," the statement read further.
After the attack, which was reportedly carried out with a missile fired from a distance to the military base, security forces in the region launched an operation with combat helicopters and armed drones. The statement also offered condolences to the families of the deceased soldiers. (EKN/SD)
