In a conflict that erupted in an operation conducted against the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK) yesterday (January 13), one specialized sergeant and one security guard have lost their lives in Haftanin region within the borders of Iraqi Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).
The family of Specialized Sergeant Bayram Günay in Dereköy village in Edirne has been informed about his passing. Edirne Governor Ekrem Canalp, Uzunköprü Sub-Governor Hakan Yavuz Erdoğan and Uzunköprü Mayor have extended their condolences to Günay family.
Funerals to be held today
The deceased body of Bayram Günay will be laid to rest in Dereköy graveyard in Edirne today. The deceased body of security guard İlyas Bağater will be laid to rest in Tepeköy, İdil in Şırnak today.
'Operation Claw-3'
Since August 24, 2019, a military operation called "Operation Claw-3" has been launched by the Turkish Armed Forces (TAF) along Haftanin-Sinat line on Turkey's border with the KRG in northern Iraq.
As part of the operation, three soldiers lost their lives on August 25, 2019, one soldier lost his life on December 2, 2019 and two soldiers lost their lives on January 2, 2020. (EKN/SD)
