Redd, a well-known rock band in Turkey, performed a concert in İstanbul's Maçka Park yesterday (June 7) to protest the government for excluding musicians from the coronavirus reopening that started on June 2.
The first concert of the group in more than one-and-a-half years was well received by the crows in the park.
In response to some news reports about the lack of physical distance during the concert, the group said in an Instagram post that "Police were there at the time. We played and it's over."
"Everybody should take to parks, beaches to make music. Let's stand up together against this carelessness, stupidity," it said.
Doğan Duru, the singer of the group, said, "We need the stages. Come on! We gave a concert today, I'm going to sleep well now. That concert was for the whole music community."
However, he said, very few musicians supported them. "I'm not sad, I was expecting this ... They'll go one day. And when they're gone, those conformist dissidents will expect a medal and the people will give them the medal. This is the only thing that I'm upset about." (AÖ/VK)
